Description
Pack of 2 letterbox springs. These springs are suitable for most traditional style letterboxes (eg. Victorian style). If your letterbox uses this type of spring you should be able to see the spring behind the flap. The spring slides over a long rod as shown in the additional photographs. This type of letterbox is still manufactured, but there are also many modern styles which take much smaller springs. These modern styles are not easy to disassemble and (as far as we are aware) replacement springs are not available for them. The springs in this listing have an internal diameter suitable for rods up to 5.5mm diameter but work equally well with smaller diameter rods. The springs are made from 1.4mm diameter galvanised wire for corrosion resistance. This is a slightly thicker gauge of wire than that used in our other letterbox springs and as such gives a good restoring force for the length of the coil (a firm feel but won't take the postman's fingers off!) Full dimensions are shown in the additional photographs along with a series of pictures showing how the spring is fitted. Please note that this spring will only fit the the left hand hinge of the letter plate as shown in the additional photographs. A few letter plates do have springs fitted to each hinge, but in our experience they are generally made with a thinner gauge of wire. If this 1.4mm wire spring is fitted to just the left hand hinge it usually offers more than enough restoring force.
